Nayana Murali specializes in data protection and technology law. She advises clients on global data protection compliance, with particular focus on EU GDPR and Indian data protection laws. Nayana assists clients in the drafting of various legal documents, including data processing agreements, data transfer agreements, cloud service agreements, terms of use for platforms, privacy and cookie policies, etc. She also provides guidance on international transfers of personal data and conducts data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and data transfer impact assessments (DTIAs).

In addition, Nayana is involved in research and innovation projects funded by the European Commission within the areas of data protection, technology, e-health, and artificial intelligence. In the context of these projects, she advises consortia comprised of companies, universities, and non-governmental organizations on the complex intersection of law and innovation. Her role involves assisting with compliance with both legal and ethical requirements. Furthermore, she conducts workshops designed to prepare consortium partners for the intricacies of data protection laws and the requirements of trustworthy artificial intelligence, thereby helping them bring their research to market.

Nayana is also experienced in drafting and negotiating various types of commercial contracts, such as joint venture, investment and shareholders’ agreements. 

Prior professional experience

Prior to joining Timelex in 2022, Nayana worked in the leading Indian law firm AZB & Partners at its Noida office. She is experienced in working for clients from diverse and regulated sectors, such as e-commerce, healthcare, automobile, technology, solar energy, and aviation.
